Longest winter ever!!! 2011 recap
The winter of 2010/2011 brought probably the best and most consistent snowfall I can ever remember and along with it, a non stop photography schedule that kept me the busiest I have ever been. Not too much sun, but an endless amount of deep powder made this probably the best winter of my career.
After a great early start at Whistler/Blackcomb, I headed off to Retallack with Sean Pettit and Seth Morrison to work on Seth’s upcoming documentary “The Ordinary Skier” during New Years week. Have a look here for the story.
I then went back to Whistler to do a Rossignol shoot and participate in The Deep Winter Photo Contest with Kye Petersen, Dan Treadway, and Matty Richard. Three days of on hill shooting in some epic to not so epic conditions, had us coming out with the first place prize “Best in Show”. Have a look at the show here.
Next was off to the X-Games to shoot for Rossignol who took home the gold once again with French superstar Kevin Rolland in the Mens Superpipe.
I was lucky enough to get a call from Mike Douglas to go to Gulmarg Kashmir in Northern India to work on an episode of Salomon Freeski TV. This was such an amazing experience that I would recommend it to anyone who likes to ski and travel. Have a look here for that story.
Next was another Oakley trip with Seth Morrison and Dan Treadway in my own backyard of Bralorne, BC. Unreal snow conditions and a private heli out front made this trip one to remember. Whiskey, guns, and powder do go together. Have a look here.
Then back to Retallack for a team shoot with Orage clothing. Bringing in JP Auclair, Charley Ager, Banks Gilberti, and Tatum Monod and once again snowing at a relentless pace, we were able to get the job done and get lots of freeskiing in some of the best snow I have ever skied. Have a look here.
I then went back to Whistler and got a few days in with my long time friends at MSP Nate Nash and Guillaume Tessier shooting Sean Pettit and Richard Permin.
Moving back to the coast I put together a ski touring trip for Mountain Hardwear deep in the Duffy Lake area. Great conditions for April and good spirits by the crew that Included Andrew McLean, Noah Howell, and Drew Stoecklein made this one really fun. Have a look here.
This year I decided to participate once again in the Telus Pro Photographer Showdown here in Whistler. This show has always been a huge inspiration to me and is something I look forward to seeing every year. It was a tense night but I was lucky enough to win the Best in Show prize of $10,000. Finishing off the winter season was the second session of the Whistler Outdoor Photography Workshops. This time I brought on board the experience of Eric Berger, Paul Morrison, and Jordan Manley. With some great luck from mother nature the workshops were a great success and will be something that we will continue to contribute to the photographic community. Have a look here.
Thats all!!! This time of year means getting all those photos out there and re-charging for the summer. Thanks to everybody who helped on all these shoots. You know who you are. See you out on the trails this summer.
